Casablanca Video Editing System

casabl.gif (11056 bytes)

Casablanca is a complete video editing system starting at under $4,000. It delivers the power, functionality, and capability of a high-end professional nonlinear system at a fraction of the cost. Casablanca provides the data rate and picture quality required for MiniDV and Beta SP video. Of course, it can also be used for S-VHS, Hi8, or VHS equipment as well. Casablanca ships in a VCR-style case and requires no dedicated VGA monitor. Your TV is all that's required! Operating the Casablanca is done using the included trackball. Operation of the system is easy and straight forward.

Installation of hardware or software is not necessary - the system is delivered complete.

Casablanca edits video in a nonlinear manner, like a computer system. All the video and audio data is saved to the removable hard drive of the system. Any sequences of video and audio can be easily split into individual scenes. These scenes can be trimmed frame precise and then moved over into a storyboard.

Using the storyboard, you can easily define transitions. There are user selectable options with most of the effects, so an unlimited number of transitions are available. Once a transition is created, you can make a Scene with the newly rendered video from your effect. With this option you can create multiple effects on any video segment!

Audio dubbing with three CD quality stereo-tracks is also included. Along with the original audio, you can add background music and comments. Of course you can mute the original audio, and raise or lower the volume of any selected audio segment.

The Casablanca is rock solid and delivers completely stable operation. You don't need any experience at all with computer systems to become quickly efficient with Casablanca.

Although it uses digital technology, Casablanca is not a computer. There is no word processor, no spreadsheet, and no internet software. In Casablanca, only the relevant components for video editing job are employed. These components are top-quality and deliver maximum performance. The video hardware of the Casablanca is similar to the DraCo Vision Nonlinear Workstation, which is a professional system for broadcast applications. The DraCo Vision was developed over a number of years, so there is significant expertise behind the Casablanca.

Casablanca is perfect for all-digital video editing with MiniDV equipment. 3.1 MB/Second is easily achieved, so any MiniDV-device can be connected over the (optional) IEEE P 1394 (FireWire) interface. This way, your digital editing is loss free.

Which system is right for me, the 040 or the 060?

The 060 version of Casablanca is the render accelerated system. A one second 2D effect on the 060 system will take about 25 seconds to render. A one second 3D effect will take around 3 minutes to render. On the 040 system, the 2D effects will take around twice as long, and the 3D effects will take from 3 - 4 times as long to render.

The 040 system is perfect for those doing mainly hard cuts and 2D effects, or for those on a limited budget. If you're doing lots of titles and 3D effects, or if you can afford the extra $1,300, go for the 060 version.
